ASCC’ING the Experts Is Back for Season Two!

Check out the latest episode of our ASCC podcast, now back for a second season!

ASCC’Ing the Experts was first created by Rylee McMillian, our ASCC intern, over the summer of 2025. Rylee launched the podcast and created Season One, which you can check out here.

After Rylee finished her internship, the ASCC podcast took a brief hiatus, until Gabe Nyen expressed interest in becoming the new host. Gabe is a PhD candidate at the University of Minnesota, working at the Jones Center at Ichauway ASCC site.

Gabe is excited about hosting the ASCC network podcast because he values communication of applied research with broad audiences and is thrilled to discuss topics that affect silvicultural management. He’s currently lined up an exciting list of new guests to have on for Season 2.

Gabe – thank you for carrying the podcast forward! The new season will provide listeners a chance to learn more about silviculture, climate adaptation, and the collaborators working with ASCC.

The first episode went live this week, which features an interview with Dr. Steven Brantley. Dr. Brantley is an ecohydrological researcher studying interactions between land and water, with a focus on the longleaf pine ecosystems of the Southeatern US.

In the episode, Gabe and Steven dive into the science of regional watersheds and forests, and forest management decisions shaping forestry in the southeastern US today.
